Right to Information Act 2005 gives every Indian citizen the right to request information from any public authority. Information must be provided within 30 days (48 hours for life/liberty matters). Appeals go to First Appellate Authority and then Central/State Information Commission.

For Central govt departments, file at rtionline.gov.in. For state depts, use respective state RTI portal.
Pay ₹10 via UPI/card online. BPL holders are exempt with income certificate.
PIO must respond within 30 days (48 hours for life/liberty). If no response, file first appeal.
First appeal to FAA within 30 days of rejection. Second appeal to CIC/SIC within 90 days of FAA order.
RTI applies only to public authorities. Private companies are not covered unless substantially funded by government.
National security, Cabinet notes, personal privacy, ongoing investigations, and commercial secrets are exempted under Section 8.
