A Birth Certificate is an official document issued by the Civil Registration System (CRS) of India. It records the date, time, and place of birth and is the foundation of every citizen's identity. Mandatory for school admission, passport, Aadhaar, and voter ID.
Most hospitals auto-register births. Ask for the birth registration receipt.
Go to crsorgi.gov.in or your local municipal/gram panchayat office.
Fill Form 1 with details of the child and parents.
Submit hospital birth report, parents' ID, and address proof.
Certificate issued within 7–15 days. Download from CRS portal or collect from office.
Yes, birth certificate is mandatory for Class 1 admission in most states under RTE Act.
Late registration at municipal office. After 1 year, a magistrate's order and affidavit are required.
