What is GST Services?

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on supply of goods and services across India. It replaced multiple taxes like VAT, Service Tax, and Excise Duty. It has 4 slabs: 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%.

Who Can Apply

  • Businesses with annual turnover > ₹20 lakh (goods) or ₹10 lakh (NE states)
  • E-commerce operators (mandatory regardless of turnover)
  • Inter-state suppliers (mandatory regardless of turnover)
  • Casual/non-resident taxable persons

Documents Required

  • PAN of business/individual
  • Aadhaar of proprietor/partners/directors
  • Business registration certificate (if applicable)
  • Bank account details + cancelled cheque
  • Address proof of business place
  • Digital Signature Certificate (for companies)

Step-by-Step Guide

Apply for GST Registration

Go to gst.gov.in > Services > Registration > New Registration. Fill Part A with PAN and mobile.

Complete Part B

Fill Part B with business details, address, bank account, and upload documents.

Verification

Application verified by GST officer. May seek clarification within 7 working days.

Receive GSTIN

GSTIN (15-digit number) issued within 3 working days of complete application.

File Monthly/Quarterly Returns

File GSTR-1 (outward supplies), GSTR-3B (summary return) monthly or quarterly.
